Over the last year, we at Red Tangerine have developed a brand new ICAgile training class titled, “Building better products – a collaborative Agile UX approach”.
Our previous work experiences had given us a common passion for improving collaboration, thinking about the big picture, and focusing on the customer. With our powers combined and our collective experience spanning development, business analysis, testing, UX, UI, product ownership, Scrum Mastery and Agile Coaching, we felt that we could create a truly amazing class.
We would have regular conference calls in the evenings, and meet face-to-face at WeWork and other shared workspaces at the weekends. What really made it work was our very different personalities; we could bounce ideas off each other and rein one another back when necessary. But it was tough, juggling all of the work to create the class around our families, our client work and the other initiatives we have going on was no easy ride. We were very confident with the content however, and with so much effort and time put into it, we were all extremely keen for it to succeed.
The class is designed using the “Training From the Back of the Room” approach, ensuring an engaging and highly interactive learning experience for the participants. Our vision was to actively include our participants rather than for us just presenting numerous slides.
The class is on the ICAgile Product Ownership track where participants earn the ICP-BVA accreditation after completing the class. ICAgile gave us a lot of great support on our journey and the learning outcomes provided by them really helped to guide us in the creation of the course content. The final step was a 3-hour conference call with Shane Hastie, Director of ICAgile Learning Programs, who assessed our training materials, our knowledge of the subject matter and us as trainers. We were thrilled to meet the criteria, for all four of us to become ICAgile Authorized Instructors, and Red Tangerine to become an ICAgile Member Organisation!
The class was run publicly for the very first time in May 2019 by myself and David Leach. We had a thoroughly enjoyable time delivering it together. The class exceeded our expectations and we were lucky to have a wonderful group of people. All of the participants were active, engaged, and collaborated together to learn as a team for the whole 2 days which was great to see!
We had some excellent feedback – our follow up NPS survey scores were all 100%. Here are some of the comments that we received from the participants;
“Loved the content, you could see that there was a lot of effort that went into its creation”
“Loved the interactive nature of the course and how it all came together on the wall. The resources board was genius and I am already referencing back to it to work out what to read next!”
“Your knowledge and passion clearly shown through from both of you. I thoroughly enjoyed it.”
This amazing feedback has given us all confidence that we have created something really valuable. We also received some great constructive comments that we are already using to make the class even better.
This is just the start and we look forward to delivering many more successful training classes. The whole experience was extremely rewarding and I wouldn’t have wanted to go on this journey with anyone else! Thank you to ICAgile, and to my fellow Red Tangerine ICAgile Authorized Instructors; Glaudia Califano, David Spinks and David Leach!
